MCAST Opens First Overseas Centre in China, Strengthening Educational Ties with JSMC
On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) inaugurated its first international educational centre outside of Europe at the Jiangsu Vocational College of Medicine (JSMC) in Yancheng, China.
The ceremony was attended by Ms Kimberly Zammit, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Malta in China, who represented the Embassy alongside MCAST Principal and CEO, Mr Stephen Vella.
Ms Zammit extended her congratulations to both MCAST and JSMC on this important milestone, emphasizing the Embassy’s ongoing support for future educational collaborations between Malta and China. She highlighted the swift development of the partnership between MCAST and JSMC, which, although still in its early stages, has already fostered meaningful connections and contributed to bridging the two countries’ academic communities.
Mr Vella described the opening as a proud achievement for MCAST, reflecting the institution’s growing international presence. He remarked, “This is not just a proud milestone for our institution, but a tangible testament to the success of our partnership. The new Centre serves as a bridge between Malta and China, MCAST and JSMC, and most importantly, between our students, educators, and communities.”
The new MCAST Centre in China will begin by offering micro-credential programmes in health sciences, allowing JSMC students to access specialized courses designed and taught by MCAST. The centre is also equipped for online learning, ensuring smooth and effective delivery of courses between the two continents.
Moreover, MCAST will offer professional development opportunities for JSMC’s nursing faculty and provide guest lectures for nursing students, fostering deeper academic collaboration and knowledge sharing.
This opening marks a significant milestone in MCAST’s global outreach, further strengthening the educational and cultural ties between Malta and China, while creating new opportunities for students and academics on both sides.
