Select your ideal spot in Malta based on your pace of life.
Malta offers everything from vibrant tourist hubs to peaceful villages, each with its own unique charm and a glimpse into local history and culture.
Whether you’re buying property or planning a holiday, your perfect location depends on your needs. A RE/MAX agent can help you find the right spot within your budget.
Below are three of Malta’s liveliest towns and three of its quietest communities to guide your decision.

Sliema
Once a modest fishing village, Sliema is now one of Malta’s top tourist spots. Its renowned waterfront promenade stretches to St Julian’s and features a variety of restaurants serving global and local dishes. Along the coast, gelaterias and coffee houses invite you to relax. Sliema also caters to shopping lovers with large malls like The Plaza and Tigné Point, as well as unique boutique stores. In summer, its rocky beach is perfect for a swim or sunbathe, while affordable ferries offer a quick trip to Valletta.

St Julian’s
At the opposite end of Sliema’s promenade lies St Julian’s, a charming town built around a small bay lined with numerous dining options. The upscale Portomaso area features luxury apartments and a yacht marina, while nearby Paceville is Malta’s nightlife epicenter with bars, clubs, and restaurants. The town also hosts the island’s largest cinema complex, a bowling center, a shopping district, and several luxury hotels.

Bugibba
Nestled between Qawra and St Paul’s Bay, Bugibba is a picturesque coastal town that attracts thousands of tourists each year. Here, you can enjoy beach clubs and a wide promenade by day, and experience the vibrant nightlife with its array of bars, nightclubs, bistros, restaurants, and even casinos.

Malta’s Tranquil Towns
For those seeking a slower pace, Malta offers towns rich in culture and history that provide a peaceful escape.
Mdina
Nicknamed “The Silent City,” Mdina is Malta’s former capital and a quiet haven. Its impressive Baroque and Norman architecture, built by the Knights of St John, gives the city a timeless charm. With limited car access, the cobbled streets create a serene atmosphere far removed from modern hustle.

Dingli
Perched on Malta’s western highlands, Dingli is renowned for its majestic cliffs and panoramic views that extend to the islet of Filfla. Enjoy a peaceful picnic in the secluded Buskett Gardens or explore the nearby Verdala Palace—the official summer residence of the President of Malta, often open for public tours.

Birgu
Also known as Vittoriosa, Birgu offers an intimate escape from the crowds despite its city status. Located on the Grand Harbour, this historic town boasts stunning views, charming architecture, and narrow alleys filled with cozy restaurants and wine bars. Once the headquarters of the Knights of St John, Birgu is the oldest of The Three Cities, alongside Senglea and Cospicua.
