Maltese Participants Explore the Traditional Art of Chinese Paper-Cutting
At the end of October, the Malta China Cultural Center hosted a vibrant Chinese paper-cutting workshop led by Shao Meihan, a renowned inheritor of the Miao ethnic group’s paper-cutting tradition from Yunnan. Recognized by China’s Ministry of Culture in 2012 for her exceptional craftsmanship, Shao guided local participants through a four-day training program that blended artistic theory with hands-on practice.
Attendees learned to intricately cut traditional motifs such as animals, architecture, and plants, gaining firsthand experience in this delicate and colorful art form. The workshop was part of an annual cultural cooperation project between the Malta China Cultural Center and the Yunnan Provincial Cultural Department, aimed at promoting cultural exchange and preserving intangible heritage.
